Well finally I am ready to post this year's winners of the 2011-2012 Prep Plus Velvet Awards.

I do apologize for the delays, but I was waiting for the other panelists to send their ballots to me so I could post the award winners. Even without one panelist from the crew of Prep Plus (WGSO 990am Friday nights at 6 p.m.), I am ready to go forward with the winners.

In the football category, there was a couple of directions we could have taken with the coach category, but in the player category there was one true winner, or so I thought, but here we go with the winners.

Inspirational Story of the Year: Johnny Marchese-- JT Curtis earns the 500th win of his career, then keeps team focused to win 24th State Championship

George Pepis-- Hard work pays off for John Curtis Basketball as they overcame the Riverside Academy dynasty to win 2A State Championship.

VK Jones-- Archbishop Hannan's Football and Softball teams reach the postseason.

Fred Sanford Memorial "You Big Dummy" Award:

Johnny-- The LHSAA's Executive Committee for suspending two baseball teams from postseason then reversing field. For guidance on how to stick with punishment, check with Roger Goodell. Nevermind, Don't get me started on that guy.

George-- After Landon Collins announced he was going to Alabama, his mother stole the show and acted like a fool on national television.

VK-- The LHSAA for deciding to go back to Ruston for the 2012-2013 Basketball Championships. When will the tourney return to Lafayette where it belongs?
