After suffering its first loss in the regular season since 2010, the LSU football team dropped to No. 9 in the AP Top 25 and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, another Louisiana school is now ranked.
Louisiana Tech jumped to No. 24 in the coaches poll and No. 23 in the AP after Saturday's 58-31 victory against UNLV.

LSU (5-1, 1-1 SEC) lost to then-No. 10 Florida on Saturday in "The Swamp," 14-6. The Tigers now face undefeated and third-ranked South Carolina (6-0, 4-0 SEC) on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. The Oct. 13 matchup will mark the first time in the 19-game series history that the Gamecocks enter ranked higher than LSU in the AP Top 25. Four of these matchups pre-date the poll.
The Tigers debut at No. 8 in the first Harris Poll release and are still in the national championship picture provided they can run the table.
Tech will face another ranked foe, Texas A&M, on Saturday in Shreveport's Independence Bowl. The two teams were supposed to open the season against one another but had the matchup rescheduled to Oct. 13 due to the effects of Hurricane Isaac. The Bulldogs are 24th in the debut of the Harris Poll, one of the components used in the BCS Rankings.
