Tahj Jones, projected in preseason to be a starting LSU linebacker, is among four Tigers who have been declared academically ineligible for the 2012 football season.
LSU head coach Les Miles confirmed a previous media report on the status of the quartet Wednesday.
Senior tight end Tyler Edwards, sophomore linebacker D.J. Welter and sophomore offensive lineman Evan Washington are also out for the season.
Luke Muncie started in place of Jones, the only one of the ineligible players considered part of the team's two-deep depth chart, for the first two games.
The four players join a list of other scholarship contributors who have become available for LSU this season. Heisman Tropht finalist Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed while junior starting offensive left tackle Chris Faulk and true freshman wide receiver Travin Dural were lost for the season with injuries.
Miles also said reserve defensive lineman Jordan Allen will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury.
