Up to seven of the 10 cities which received a request for proposal from the Southeastern Conference and Big 12 Conference to bid on the newly formed Champions Bowl will likely not make a bid, sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.
Of the three cities most likely to bid - New Orleans, Atlanta and Arlington, Texas - it appears to be a two-horse race between the Superdome and Cowboys Stadium, the report said. Atlanta is likely a longshot because it already hosts the SEC championship game.
Allstate Sugar Bowl officials confirmed receipt of the RFP last week, but would not comment further on the process.
Responses to the RFP are due Aug. 22.
