Rickey Jefferson, the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, is following in his sibiling's footsteps for college.

The Destrehan High athlete committed to the Tigers Sunday, first reported by Shea Dixon of the 247sports network.

"I just felt it was the right time," Jefferson said to TigerBait.com. "I knew I wanted to be a Tiger."

The right time was not considered a lock to happen for LSU with Jefferson who camped in Baton Rouge. There were concerns that the tumultuous final season under center and off-the-field experienced by his older brother might have soured Rickey on LSU. Jordan Jefferson missed the first four games on his senior season in 2011 under a suspension for his connection to a bar fight off-campus. Jordan, a four-year starter for the Tigers, struggled in his final collegiate game, a 21-0 loss to Alabama in the BCS title game.

The younger Jefferson (6-0, 180) has shined as an wide receiver in high school but may end up at the cornerback position once he reaches Baton Rouge. Dixon reports LSU accepted him as a corner. Jefferson is considered one of the top 150 recruits in the 2013 national class by the major services.

Jefferson marks the 20th pledge in LSU's 2013 class.

The in-state haul topped another good weekend on the recruiting trail for the Tigers after LSU added its first commitment for 2014. Kain Daub (6-3, 230), considered to be one of the very best juniors in the country, is a linebacker who would be a terrific catch for LSU if his early pledge holds up until signing day in February 2014.
