New Orleans, La. – Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) will serve as host for the 2011 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday, April 22nd at 10 a.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge. Participating schools include SUNO, Dillard University, Xavier University, and Edward Waters College.
Events will include all sprints, relays, distance races, the long jump, triple jump, high jump, the discus, and the shot put. It will be the first time the four institutions have gone head-to-head in track and field competition. SUNO is coached by Yhann Plummer, Dillard is coached by Bobby Williams, Jr., Xavier is coached by Joseph Moses, and Edward Waters is coached by Archie Gallon.

SUNO has seven national championships in track and field to its credit—1975, 1976, 1977, 1995 (indoor and outdoor), and 1997 (indoor and outdoor).
