Nicholls Football to Conclude Spring on Saturday; Meet-and- Greet to Follow

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University football team will conclude its spring season with a live scrimmage on Saturday, April 16, at John L. Guidry Stadium starting at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the practice, the Colonel Athletic Association will host a meet-and-greet session with players and coaches.

The event is open to the general public with free admission and parking. Fans can park in the lots on either side of John L. Guidry Stadium.

The spring scrimmage will feature approximately 50 plays of live action in different scenarios. The first session will be 18 plays of 1st-and-10 situations, followed by 18 plays in the red zone area which includes kicking field goals from different locations. The teams will then split up with 7-on-7 passing drills on one end and linemen drills on the other. The final portion consists of live action plays involving 3rd down situations from various distances.

Fans can follow along at home via a live audio broadcast courtesy of ThibodauxOnline.com. Mike Wagenheim and former Colonel quarterback Nolan Dumas will be calling the scrimmage, with coverage starting at 10:10 a.m.

After the scrimmage concludes, the CAA’s meet-and-greet, sponsored by the Norm “Big Boy” Foundation, will start at approximately 11:30 a.m. Food and beverages will be provided and fans can pick up the 2011 football season ticket brochures.

Fans are also encouraged to stick around campus all day as several Nicholls teams will be in action on Saturday. The women’s tennis team hosts Texas State at the Colonel Tennis Complex at 11:00 a.m. while the softball team will also face the Bobcats at the Colonel Softball Complex in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. At 3 p.m., the Colonel baseball team is slated to take on Central Arkansas at Ray E. Didier Field.
