LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball head coach Terry Burrows has finalized his signing class for the 2013 season, inking 10 players including four pitchers, a catcher, shortstop, first baseman third baseman, outfielder and a utility player.
The 10 signees include five that signed back in April.
Making up the signees include Chayse Marion, a first baseman from Trinidad Community College; Reed Gordy, a third baseman from New Mexico Junior College; Lucas Quary, a utility player from Seminole State, and right handed pitchers Cory Lapeze out of Angelina Junior College and Bryce Kingsley from Barbe High School.
Already signed were three right handed pitchers – Nick Alexiou of Panola Junior College, Michael Desabrais of Mesa Community College and Steven O'Bryant of Baton Rouge Community College; catcher Cameron Toole of Bishop Kelly Moore Catholic HS; and Hans Ask, a shortstop from Trinidad Community College.
Marion (6-3, 220) earned first team all-region honors as both a freshman and at Trinidad CC. He's coming off a season where he hit .434 with 12 home runs, 50 RBI, 22 doubles and 54 runs scored.
Gordy (6-2, 190) was his team's most valuable player last season after he hit .389 with three homers, 41 RBI, 18 doubles, 43 runs and 20 stolen bases. He earned first team all-conference honors for his efforts.
Quary (6-3, 215) compiled a 4-3 record on the mound with a 4.16 ERA. He tossed 52 innings and struck out 47 batters. He also hit .243 at the plate with four home runs, 15 RBI, four doubles and 16 runs scored.
Lapeze (6-4, 190) clocked 89-92 with his fastball this past season at Panola JC and compiled a 4-1 record with a 3.95 ERA. He threw 41 innings and had 27 strikeouts. As a freshman, the Houma native and Vandebilt Catholic product had a 3.36 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched with 69 batters fanned at Angelina CC.
Kingsley (6-1, 160) earned first team Louisiville Slugger High School All-America, Class 5A All-State, District 3-5A All-District, All-Southwest Big School honors as a senior at Barbe. He led his team to the Class 5A state championship after he posted a 10-1 record with a 0.41 ERA and struckout 86 batters in 68 innings pitched.
Desabrais (6-4, 185) was clocked at 90-93 mph on his fastball at Mesa CC this past season where he earned JUCO All-America honors and was the MVP runner-up for the Arizona JUCO League. The Gilbert, Ariz. Native compiled an 8-3 record with a 2.08 ERA. He threw 82 innings and struck out 56 batters. He also recorded one save.
O'Bryant (5-11, 160) posted a 2-6 record and a 5.63 ERA at Baton Rouge CC this past season. The Central, La. native and Central Private HS product was clocked with an 87-89 mph fast ball and threw 56 innings with 43 strike outs.
Toole (6-0, 180) is a two-time Steinbrenner Wood Bat Classic winner with Chet Lemon's Juice baseball team and a 2011 winner of the Perfect Game World Wood Bat Championship with Chet Lemon's Juice team. He was named his team's MVP and defensive player of the year this past season at Bishop Kelly Moore Catholic HS and also guided his team to a district and regional championship. The Orlando native hit .361 with a home run, 26 RBI, six doubles, nine stolen bases and a .513 OBP.
Ask (6-2, 185), a native of Pueblo West, Colo., earned second team All-Region IX honors last season while at Trinidad CC after he hit .324 with five homers, 26 RBI, 15 doubles, 51 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. He earned first team all-region honors as a freshman.
Gooch (6-4, 210) earned first team All-Region IX honors and was the nation's RBI leader among JUCO teams with 78. He led the region with 18 homers while guiding Lamar Community College to a league and regional championship. The British Columbia native hit .417 last year with 91 hits, 20 doubles, two triples and 62 runs scored to go along with his homers and RBI.
