MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team opened its second Sun Belt Conference series of the season against Georgia Southern on Friday night and came away with a 3-0 win on Geo-Surfaces Field to open the weekend series.

-The Warhawks scored right away in the first inning with a single up the middle from Melanie Coyne to put Sami Billeaudeau in scoring position, but an error by the center fielder would give Billeaudeau enough time to cross the plate with what would be the eventual winning run.

-ULM finished with just three hits, led by Coyne’s two-hit night, as she drove in both Warhawk RBI on the night. Coyne drove in Billeadeau in the opening inning and later in the sixth inning connected on a solo home run. Megan Shaw had the only other ULM hit in the game.
-The third run for the Warhawks was when Jayden Mount crossed the plate on a passed ball in the first inning for the second run of the frame.
-Georgia Southern had just four hits, one in both the first and third innings before putting two runners on base in the sixth inning before ULM’s defense left the runners stranded.
-Coyne was also big in the circle as she moved to 10-4 on the season. The California native allowed only four hits in the complete game performance, striking out seven batters while not allowing a walk.

-The Warhawks close out the series against Georgia Southern with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Geo-Surfaces Field.
