LAFAYETTE – With rain showers expected to arrive in the Lafayette area late afternoon into the early evening hours, Tuesday’s scheduled doubleheader between No. 18-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball and No. 15 Baylor at Lamson Park has been canceled.

The Top 25 matchup has been rescheduled with the two teams now set to play a single game on Thursday (March 9) at 4 p.m. at Lamson Park.

Season ticket holders can use their original Tuesday tickets for admission to Thursday’s single game. For fans who may have purchased individual game tickets in advance, those will be honored on Thursday.

The game is being designated a Red Out with fans encouraged to wear red. The first 750 fans will receive a Ragin’ Cajuns swag rag courtesy of Home Bank. As part of a Weekday Work Perk promotion, business cards will be collected at the fan services table and a winner will be chosen for a prize.

Thursday’s single game vs. Baylor will conclude what will now be a season-opening, 22-game homestand for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Louisiana (17-4) and Baylor (18-4) entered the week as two of the nation’s hottest teams.

Since the Top 25 series with then-No. 4 Alabama (Feb. 18-19) the Ragin’ Cajuns have won 13 of their last 14 games. Louisiana is coming off a 6-0 run through the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational last weekend, outscoring foes 71-6 in extending their current win streak to seven games.

Baylor has hit an early stride also, winning of 12 of its past 13 games dating back to Feb. 19. Glen Moore’s squad is coming off a strong performance at the prestigious Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., posting wins over No. 20 Arizona State, No. 14 Michigan, No. 8 Washington and No. 7 UCLA.

Following Thursday’s makeup game, the Ragin’ Cajuns travel to Boone, N.C., on Friday for the Sun Belt Conference-opening series at Appalachian State. The series with the Mountaineers is scheduled for 12 p.m. (CST) doubleheader on Saturday and 11 a.m. (CDT) single game on Sunday.
