HOUSTON — Southern University softball hit a combined 7 for 44 and scored 1 run as the Lady Jaguars dropped a pair of road games against Texas State, 6-1 and 8-0 at Husky Field on the campus of Houston Baptist.
In game one, freshman pitcher Aubrion James pitched a complete game but allowed six runs on nine hits while the Jaguars struggled at the plate scattering four hits and one run.
Texas State starter Quincy Charleston held the Lady Jaguars scoreless through four innings, retiring the first eight batters before Jamani Greer reached on Lexi Fryar’s error in the third inning. Southern’s lone run came in the fifth inning against reliever Krista Jacobs when James scored on a failed pickoff attempt by the catcher.
Shauna Knighten, Kiara Suttles and James collected a hit, going 1-3 at the plate while Tiara Scott entered in the fifth to capture the Lady Jaguars final hit.
In game two, Southern recorded three hits but was shutout 8-0 in five innings.
Jodi Paige Williams stifled the Lady Jaguars offense recording eight strikeouts in route to her fifth win of the season.
Southern returns to league play when the Lady Jaguars host Alabama A&M for a three-game series which opens on Friday, Mar. 24 at Lady Jaguar Field.
