Kansas City, MO – The 11th-ranked Generals learned they will have at least two more games to play at Generals Field this season after the NAIA announced on Wednesday that LSUA will be one of ten host sites for the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, which runs May 15-17.
This will be the third straight season where LSUA has hosted the opening round, sweeping through the tournament in 2015 to advance to the World Series, while Williams Baptist took the Alexandria Bracket win in 2016, with the Generals falling in the semifinal.
The Alexandria Bracket will be a four-team, double-elimination format with the winner advancing to the 37th Annual NAIA Softball World Series, which is being held this year in Clermont, Florida from May 26th to June 1st. LSUA will be one of the four teams playing in the Alexandria Bracket, with the other three teams being announced when the full, 40-team NAIA Tournament field is announced on May 10th.
“We are very excited to again host the Opening Round,” said LSUA head coach Jerry Breaux. “It is a privilege and honor to bring the Opening Round of the NAIA World Series back to our campus and central Louisiana. Our team, especially our seniors, are excited and we look forward to the challenge that this tournament holds as we try to be one of the final ten to head to Florida.”
No. 11 LSUA (39-6, 22-1 RRAC) are one win away from clinching the Red River Athletic Conference regular season championship. The Generals look to claim the prize on Friday in Hawkins, Texas when they take on Jarvis Christian. First pitch for Friday’s doubleheader against the Bulldogs is set for 2:00 P.M. at Lady Bulldog Field.
