Soccer: Lady Techsters blank Jaguars

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight as they downed Southern, 4-0, on Tuesday night at Jaguar Park.

LA Tech (8-1-1) was able to gets goals from four different Lady Techsters – Mylene Roy-Ouellet, Stella Li, Nomvula Kgoale and Kathryn Sloan – in officially closing out the non-conference portion of its schedule.

“We learned quite a bit about our team tonight, some positive and some negative,” head coach Kevin Sherry said. “After 10 non-conference games, we know have a good grasp on what we get from certain players in certain possibilities.”

Roy-Ouellet got things started with her team-leading sixth goal that came in the 18th minute on the assist from Sloan who split the defense with the pass and then there was the beating of the keeper on a 1v1.

The Lady Techsters were not done in the first half as they also netted a goal in the 27th minute from Li. The freshman, notching her first career goal, picked up the ball at midfield dribbled down the center beating the backline before going around the keeper to pass into empty net.

Another goal was added just before intermission at the 44-minute mark when another Techster, Kgoale, notched her first career goal. Jaelyn Peeples was awarded the assist on the free kick from the left of the box. Kgoale then had the one-touch finish at near post from six yards.

Lastly in the 76th minute, Sloan dribbled in from the left for a shot but the keeper came up with the save. Following the rebound, Monica Gebler struck the post with her shot before the ball settled near Sloan who finished it from 10 yards out.

With the goal, the senior striker tied the program record for career goals with No. 32. It also brought her point total for the season up to a team-high 15.

LA Tech ended up with a lopsided 30-4 shot advantage. Getting the victory in net was freshman Carlotta Cartelli who registered win No. 4 on the season with two saves to her credit.

The Lady Techsters will not turn their attention to Conference USA action which gets underway on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Southern Miss.
