HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana right-hander Mac Sceroler was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the conference office announced Monday.
Sceroler struck out a career-high 12 batters Thursday, shutting down the Demon bats in Southeastern Louisiana’s 7-0 win over Northwestern State in the opener of a conference series Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The junior right-hander from Denham Springs, Louisiana, fanned a pair of batters each in the second, third and fourth innings. After walking the leadoff hitter in the fourth, Sceroler retired the next 14 batters he faced.
A two-out walk and single snapped the string, putting runners on the corners in the eighth, but Sceroler caught the Northwestern State shortstop looking for his third strikeout of the inning and final strikeout of the game.
Sceroler earned the win, improving to 6-1 on the season, after allowing just two hits and a pair of walks in eight innings of work.
Southeastern pitcher Corey Gaconi and third baseman Taylor Schwaner were previously named players of the week by the Southland this season.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, but is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
