Riverside’s Mason Vicknair signs with Delgado baseball

Riverside Academy senior baseball star Mason Vicknair signed a scholarship with Delgado Thursday morning.

Vickair (6-3, 190) touches 87-88 with his fastball and sits at 85 with regularity. Vicknair projects as a two-way player for the Dolphins.

In 2016, Vicknair was named the Most Outstanding Player in Louisiana in Class 2A by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association, batting .360 with eight doubles, five triples, five home runs, 27 RBI and with 19 stolen bases. On the mound, Vicknair was 8-3 with a 1.32 ERA with 84 strikeouts in just 74 innings pitched as he led the Rebels to the Class 2A semifinals.

In 2015, Vicknair was outstanding as a sophomore, batting .403 with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases. On the mound, he was 4-1 with a 3.85 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 32 and two-thirds innings pitched.

This season, Vicknair is batting .400 with two doubles, three triples, five home runs, 20 RBI and three stolen bases in 19 games. On the mound, he is 2-2 with a 1.56 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 22 and one-third innings.
