The top defensive tackle in the 2017 class made his plans clear on the eve of signing day.
Neville’s Phidarian Mathis announced he will sign Wednesday with Alabama over his other finalist, LSU and TCU.
Mathis visited all three schools this month.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron traveled to Monroe to visit Mathis on Thursday, and LSU’s Austin Thomas visited Mathis’ father in Atlanta on Friday.
The 6-foot-4, 287 pounder played alongside 2016 LSU signee Rashard Lawrence last season at Neville.
Mathis plays with a hot motor, is very disruptive, disengages from blocker quickly, gives total effort, plays with a mean streak and covers kicks to boot.
