Tacoma, WA – Ryan Weber, Dean Kiekhefer, and Emilo Pagan combine to pitch Tacoma to a league leading fifth shutout on Monday night. The Rainiers defeated the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 2-0, in front of 2,641 fans at Cheney Stadium.
The Rainiers scored a first inning run when Leonys Martin scored on a RBI double from Boog Powell. Tacoma added a second run in the third inning when Dan Vogelbach doubled home Powell.
The Cakes offense managed just three hits in the loss. New Orleans threatened in the seventh inning with a pair of hits and a hit batter but a double play helped Weber out of the jam and he improved tyo 2-0 on the season. Cakes starter Stephen Fife (1-2) pitched six innings allowed two runs, one earned on five hits.
The Rainiers (19-11) improved to 11-4 at home this season. The Cakes (11-20) have dropped eight of its last nine road games and fell nine and a half games back of first place.
GAME NOTES: The Cakes promoted infielder JT Riddle to the Miami Marlins and added infielder Junior Arroyo from extended spring training. Brandon Barnes extended his hitting streak to seven games. New Orleans has not hit a home run in its last nine road games.
