Cajuns practice

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team returned to practice on Thursday, working out for nearly two hours in pads at the Ragin’ Cajuns Practice Facility.

Louisiana, which will wrap up its second week of spring practice on Saturday, continued to install its offensive and defensive packages in the 22-period workout with both sides shining in respective drills.

The Ragin’ Cajuns defense got the best of the offense during 7-on-7 drills before the offense found its rhythm during red zone situations. Receivers Ja’Marcus Bradley and Calif Gossett each caught TD passes during 11-on-11 drills in the red zone for the Ragin’ Cajuns offense while Errol Brown picked off a deflected pass near the goal line.

“I thought we took a step forward today,” head coach Mark Hudspeth said. “I thought the previous practice (on Tuesday) wasn’t as good as the first two, but I thought today we revved it back up. Defensively, I thought we did some pretty good things in our pass skelly period, especially in third down (situations).

“And I thought we revved it up offensively during our team period at the end. I thought they did some good things. (Quarterback) Jordan Davis had an exceptional day. He was very efficient. And our wide outs stepped up and made some big plays … that was good to see.”

Louisiana will return to action on Saturday (March 18) when it works out at 9:50 a.m. The Ragin’ Cajuns will hold their annual Red-White Spring Game on April 8 and will open the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Southeastern Louisiana.
