Des Moines, IA – Bijan Rademacher drilled a two-out two-run double in the fourth inning to help lift the Iowa Cubs to a 5-2 win Thursday afternoon over the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
Ian Happ opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out solo homer, his league leading fifth of the season.
The Cakes manufactured a run in the fourth inning with a walk, a single and an RBI hit from Ryan Jackson.
Iowa took the lead in the fourth inning and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning for its second consecutive win.
Cubs starter Aaron Brooks allowed one run on five hits for his second win of the season. New Orleans starter Vance Worley allowed three runs on eight hits in four innings and suffered the defeat.
New Orleans left 11 men on base and finished the contest 1×12 with runners in scoring position. Iowa (5-3) used Pierce Johnson for the final five outs to earn his first save. The Cakes (2-6) Steve Lombardozzi and Matt Juengel each had multi-hit games.
GAME NOTES: New Orleans activated LHP Greg Nappo and assigned pitcher Ryan Beckman to the Batavia Muckdogs. The Cakes have been outscored 22-4 in the first three innings this season. Matt denDekker extended his hitting streak to seven games.
