Shawn Prudhomme scored a career high 37 points and Jared Sam recordeds his first double-double of the season, hitting 20 points and grabbing 13 boards as the dynamic duo led Southern University to its second straight home victory in a 91-79 win against Paul Quinn College Tuesday night.
After Blake Ervin’s three pointer trimmed SU’s lead to 64-61, the Jaguars hit 15 straight points capped off by one of Prudhomme eight 3-pt field goals to take complete control of the game with 4:33 left in regulation.
“Late in the second half, I played limited people and we saw a little more consistent group of guys playing their role,” said head coach Raman Banks. “We are playing a little bit more up tempo because that’s more of our point guard style where he can get more guys involved.”
JaMarcus Weatherspoon scored 10 points and Tre’Lun Banks had eight points but controlled the tempo of the game by dishing out eleven assists. As a team, the Jaguars had 23 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field.
Blake Ervin and Jalen Johnson led Paul Quinn with 17 points each. Sirpatrick Reynolds scored 15 and Ashley Brooks added 11 points.
The Jaguars will look to extend its current win streak when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on the Florida A&M Rattler for a 3 p.m. matinee.
