Privateers stay undefeated against Tigers

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of New Orleans men’s tennis team took on Jackson State on Wednesday afternoon, besting the Tigers 7-0 for their second sweep of the season and their first on the road.

“We did a great job executing today against Jackson State,” head coach Burzis Kanga said. “From the first serve until the last the guys were consistent and did a great job of limiting their mistakes and not allowing any of their matches to go into a third set. When we play like we did today we can compete with any team we play against.”

New Orleans (6-7) claimed its first doubles point in a road match this season with victories on courts one and three. Juniors Federico Boscarino and Federico Staksrud started off doubles play with a 6-1 victory at the top slot, with senior Luis Albuquerque and junior Giacomo Adoncecchi prevailing 6-3.

Albuquerque claimed the first point for the Privateers in singles action, besting his Jackson State (5-2) counterpart 6-2, 6-3 at the fifth position. Boscarino, the former Tiger, earned his first singles victory against his previous team with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the second flight. Sophomore Nicolas Kramer clinched the match for UNO on court four with a 6-3, 6-2 score.

Sophomore Jeffrey Hsu, playing at the top slot, bested his Tiger foe 6-3, 6-2 for his first victory against Jackson State, while Staksrud won 6-3, 6-4 on court two and Adoncecchi won 6-3, 6-2 at the sixth position for his 10th win of the season.
