SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of New Orleans men’s tennis played its second-straight game in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday afternoon, losing to Marquette 5-0.

In doubles play, Marquette (8-4) won on courts one and two to claim the doubles point. Junior Giacomo Adoncecchi and sophomore Jeffrey Hsu played at the second position for New Orleans (5-6), losing 6-3 before a 7-6 battle for juniors Federico Boscarino and Federico Staksrud at the top flight went the Golden Eagles’ way to end doubles.

For the Privateers in singles action, Hsu gave his Marquette counterpart a competitive opening set at the top slot, but fell short 7-6 before dropping the second set 6-2. Boscarino played at the second position, losing 6-2 7-5 while Staksrud played at the third flight and lost 6-4, 7-6. Playing on the fourth court, Adoncecchi’s unbeaten streak came to an end after a 6-3, 7-5 setback.

“Today was a tough match,” head coach Burzis Kanga said. “We only had four guys who could play due to illnesses. None of our guys are at 100 percent, but we fought hard against a good Marquette team. We have a couple days to rest before our next match, if we can get healthy in time we should be able to get a big conference win against Abilene Christian.”

The Texas leg of the Privateers’ five-match road swing concludes on Saturday, Mar. 25 against Abilene Christian. The Privateers continue the road swing at Jackson State on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. UNO returns home on Sunday, Apr. 2 when they host Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m.
