Mobile, AL – No. 9 LSUA saw its deepest run ever at the National Championship Tournament come to an end at the hands of the NAIA’s defending champions, falling in the quarterfinals 5-0 to the top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies Thursday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Complex.

The first two doubles matches ended in 8-0 victories for the Grizzlies, but it was a tougher fight in the number one match-up where Sara Andrade and Gisela Amor were able to keep it close, but eventually fell 8-5.

But the fight Andrade showed in doubles took its toll in singles as she was the first LSUA player to fall, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match-up and put the Generals on the brink of elimination. That point came soon after from court six to halt the match.

The loss brings to an end the best season in LSUA’s three year history, setting a new high mark in wins with 19, compared to just four losses, and the deepest run in the National Tournament by getting to the final eight. The Generals also achieved the program’s highest ranking ever, currently at No. 9 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, and is slated to move up further in the postseason poll after the quarterfinal appearance.
