No. 9 Generals ease into NAIA Tennis Tournament second round

Mobile, AL – No. 9 LSUA collected its second ever win in the NAIA National Championship Tournament, knocking off the 24th-seeded Hastings Broncos 8-1 in the first round of the NAIA Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Complex.

LSUA’s domination started in doubles as the Generals picked up all three points in doubles play. In the #2 match-up, Laia Charles and Paula Gordillo swept their way to the win, getting the 8-0 result. Sara Andrade and Gisela Amor in the #1 match-up and Maria Emilia Montenegro and Betsabet Vasquez Hidalgo in the #3 took their matches with identical 8-1 scores.

Vasquez Hidalgo and Montenegro quickly claimed the team win for LSUA as they took the singles matches on courts 4 and 5 respectively by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Laia Charles won on court three, 6-2, 6-0, while Ariadna Cabezas won the #6 match 6-1, 6-2. Gisela Amor finished off LSUA’s last point with a 6-2, 6-2 score for the 8-1 result.

The Generals (18-3) advance out of the first round for the second time in the program’s three years of existence, equaling last year’s run to the second round. LSUA will take on #8 Northwestern Ohio tomorrow in the second round match-up. First serve against the Racers is set for 1:00 P.M. at the Mobile Tennis Center.
