San Antonio, TX – No. 22 LSUA finished its first weekend of conference play with a sweep of Our Lady of the Lake, taking both of Monday’s games from the Saints 13-1 and 8-4 at the OLLU Softball Field.

LSUA’s bats found Saint pitcher Taylor Doege right off the bat as the Generals scored six runs in the first inning and forced her out of the circle before an out was recorded. Kimberly Gonzalez got it started as her single scored Jacy Ummel. Danelle Billings got the big blast as she took the first pitch she saw from Doege and put it over the wall for a three-run home run, her first home run on the day which chased Doege from the circle. Jessica Hampton doubled in both Alex Greer and Kennedy Beard to cap the scoring and give Marci West a 6-0 lead before she even stepped in the circle for the first time in the game.

The Generals kept it going in the second inning with four more runs. After Kimberly Gonzalez led off with a walk, Julinn Torres followed her with a two-run blast for her third home run of the season to make it 8-0 LSUA. Alex Greer later brought in Kendra Baldridge, and then Jacy Ummel’s bunt single scored PJ Leon to make the score 10-0 through only two innings of play.

PJ Leon added to the lead in the fifth inning as she came up with Alexis Hagan and Kendra Baldridge on base and slammed her first home run of the season to add three runs to the LSUA lead and make it 13-0. The Saints added a run in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t stop the run-rule from ending the game early.

Marci West (9-3) threw another complete game as she gave up just seven hits, struck out two and came two outs away from another shut out. Alex Greer was four-for-four at the plate while Danelle Billings and PJ Leon each had a trio of RBIs.

Danelle Billings continued her onslaught in game four as she hit her second home run of the day and third of the series, a two-run jack, to put LSUA up 2-0 in the first inning of game two. But Amanda Guerra answered with a two-run homer of her own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.

The Generals opened it up in the fourth inning, by scoring an equal amount of runs. Julinn Torres took the inning’s second pitch over the wall to give LSUA the lead back at 3-2. Kaitlyn Eaves later singled in Billings, and then Jacy Ummel doubled, which scored both Alex Greer and Alexis Hagan to make it 6-2 LSUA. But the Saints responded with a pair of their own as Ina Trejo doubled in Taylor Doege and Lauren Garza’s singled in Amanda Sanchez. For ra 6-4 score at the end of the fourth inning.

But LSUA got those two runs back in the top of the fifth inning as an error allowed Kendra Baldridge to come in, and then PJ Leon’s single plated Brittany Barbay for the 8-4 score.

Kasey Cazares (3-0) got the win in relief, going 3.2 innings and giving up four hits and no runs, walking one and striking out four. Jacy Ummel, Danelle Billings and Kaitlyn Eaves each had a pair of hits in the game two win with Ummel and Billings also collecting a pair of RBIs.

LSUA (21-5, 4-0 RRAC) play a major conference series at home next weekend when the Jaguars of Houston-Victoria visit central Louisiana. First pitch of the four-game series is set for 1:00 P.M. on Friday at Generals Field.
