RUSTON, La. – In just four games over the past five days, Nate Harris picked up a win and two saves which earned the senior right-hander Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors.
Harris who has currently tossed 12 consecutive scoreless innings for the Bulldogs, leads Conference USA with three saves on the young season. No other pitcher in C-USA has more than one save and Harris has added a win on top of those three saves.
The San Antonio, Texas native has the second lowest batting average against amongst C-USA pitchers who have tossed eight or more innings this season. The only pitcher in the conference with a lower mark is fellow Bulldog Cameron Linck.
Harris saw his first action of the week in the Bulldogs 4-2 victory over Little Rock on Wednesday night. Harris entered with the Bulldogs trailing by one and tossed two scoreless innings where he struck out three. After Raphael Gladu’s three-run homer, Harris slammed the door in the ninth to earn his first win of the season.
On Saturday afternoon in Arlington, Harris would be called on again to slow down a UT-Arlington team that was clawing back in it, looking for a comeback. Harris entered in the eighth with the Bulldogs holding a narrow 5-3 lead and threw two more scoreless innings, striking out four Mavericks to preserve the victory.
Harris’ weekend was not done though. After some late inning-drama the Bulldogs found themselves in another extra innings affair. The Diamond ‘Dogs pushed across two runs in the top of the eleventh and Nate Harris came on in the bottom half to seal the sweep in Arlington.
Harris and the Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday night, welcoming in nationally-ranked Arkansas to J.C. Love Field, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
