FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University redshirt senior pitcher Mike Hanchar was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday in a release from the league office.
“[Hanchar] was pretty impressive (Saturday). His fastballs in the eighth and ninth innings were better than the first and second,” said head baseball coach Seth Thibodeaux. “He made some great adjustments from last week (against SFA). He put us on his back and did a phenomenal job.”
Hanchar, a 6-5 southpaw hailing from Highland, Indiana, turned in a masterful performance against the University of New Orleans, claiming his first career complete-game shutout as the Colonels evened the series with a 3-0 victory.
Hanchar scattered six hits, struck out six and walked one. He surrendered multiple hits in just one inning, retired the side three times and allowed only one baserunner to reach scoring position.
This is Hanchar’s second time receiving the honor this season as he and fellow senior Cole Stapler went back-to-back on February 28 and March 7.
