LAKE CHARLES – McNeese’s men’s and women’s cross country teams were both recognized on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for earning All-Academic honors.
McNeese is one of six Southland Conference schools to earn the academic recognition by the USTFCCCA.
This is the eighth time in the last 10 years the Cowgirls have garnered the award and the fourth time for the Cowboys.
The Cowgirls posted a team GPA of 3.48 for the fall semester while the Cowboys compiled a 3.26 grade point average.
A total of 22 McNeese cross country student-athletes (11 men and 11 women) each compiled a GPA of 3.0 or better last fall. Of those, eight earned a perfect 4.0 (Luke Betts, Eric Greene, Finlay Murray, Haile Gilroy, Emma Godfrey, Lauren Hawtin, Shannon McLellan, Katja Woelfl).
Overall, there were 431 teams that earned distinction from the USTFCCCA for their efforts both athletically and academically. Of those 431 teams, 242 were women’s and 189 were men’s.
A cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 must be met to qualify for the honors.
