FRISCO, Texas – The McNeese indoor track and field trio of Nathan Jones, John Lemke and Nicole Casper have all been named this week’s Southland Conference Indoor Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
It’s the second straight week Casper has garnered the award and also second consecutive week McNeese has had at least two athletes voted for the accolade.
Casper set a new school record in the women’s pole vault for the second consecutive week, this time clearing 13-feet, 7 ¼-inches in taking second place at the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational.
With her height, the Buna, Texas native continues to lead the Southland Conference in that event while also ranking eighth in the NCAA South Central Region and 15th nationally.
Lemke soared to an indoor personal record in the triple jump by marking out at 50-10.25 to finish first at the LSU Bayou Bengal meet.
It’s the second time the Lake Charles native has gone over 50 feet in indoor competition and fifth time overall. His overall personal record is 51-3.
His most current jump has him ranked No. 1 in the Southland Conference by nearly 10 inches while holding down a No. 7 ranking in the region and 31st nationally.
Jones clocking a blistering 14:21.84 in the 5,000-meters at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational last weekend to finish second among some of the best runners in the country.
That time ranks him first in the league by more than 32 seconds, and in the south central region. The junior from Rhyl, Wales is ranked 27th nationally in the event.
