Alexandria, LA – LSUA opened up early leads in both games of a doubleheader against Huston-Tillotson and never looked back as the Generals won both games from the Rams, 13-2 and 8-4 Friday evening at Generals Field and officially punched their ticket to the RRAC Postseason Tournament.
In the bottom of the first, LSUA got back-to-back-to-back RBIs in the first inning. After Kris Tamplet got on with a one-out double, Blake Garrett brought him in with a single, which was followed by a double by Logan Constantine that scored Garrett, that was followed by a Taylor Faulk single that plated Constantine to make it 3-0 after an inning of play.
It got better for the Generals in the second inning. After Thane Lanclos got aboard with a one-out triple, Ty Desormeaux singled in pinch runner Drew Brown to make it 4-0. Kris Tamplet’s double scored Desormeaux, and then Blake Garrett rolled one to the right side of the infield that allowed Trace Oliva to come home. Logan Constantine capped it off with a single that scored Tamplet to make it 7-0 LSUA through two innings.
Huston-Tillotson made their lone dents in the scoreboard in the fourth inning off the bat of Gweshaughn Richards, whose two-run home run pulled the score to within 7-2. But, LSUA continued to pound Ram pitching. After Logan Constantine and Taylor Faulk opened the fifth inning with singles, Brady Fryou sent everyone home with a three-run home run to open the score to 10-2.
LSUA added more insurance in the sixth as Trace Oliva led off the inning with a solo shot for his second home run of the season. Brady Fryou capped the scoring with a single that scored Logan Constantine and Taylor Faulk for the 13-2 score.
Fernando Martinez (6-1) went six innings and gave up five hits and two runs, both earned, as he struck out five Ram batters and walked two. Trace Oliva, Logan Constantine and Taylor Faulk each had three hits in game one, while Brady Fryou led the way with five RBIs in the contest.
Blake Garrett started game two in style. With Trace Olive standing on second base, he blasted one over the wall in left for his fifth home run of the season and gave the Generals a 2-0 lead through one.
The Generals doubled the lead in the second inning. Tyler Mathis doubled in Ziggy Sloan, and then Trey Caswell’s single scored pinch runner Drew Brown for a 4-0 LSUA lead through two complete.
But the Rams started to battle back a bit in the third inning as a Paul Garcia two-out single scored two to make it 4-2 LSUA. Tillotson got another back in the fifth inning as Adrian Buruato grounded the ball to first base, allowing Ajani Dowdy to score and make it 4-3. But LSUA got that run back in the bottom half of the inning on Logan Constantine’s double that scored Trace Oliva and make it 5-3.
LSUA got all the insurance it needed in the sixth inning. Trace Oliva’s double scored Brady Fryou and Trey Caswell and Ty Desormeaux followed that with a single that scored Oliva to make it 8-3. A wild pitch in the ninth allowed a Ram run in, but that would be all as the Generals claimed the doubleheader sweep to clinch the series.
Cole Feazell (6-1) went 6.1 innings and gave up seven hits and three runs, all earned, struck out five and walked two in the game two victory. Trace Oliva was four-of-five at the plate and scored three times. He also knocked in a pair of runs, as did Blake Garrett, who also finished with two RBIs.
With bad weather intruding, the Generals (27-16, 16-4 RRAC) and Rams (10-20, 6-13 RRAC) will play some early morning baseball to get the final game of the series in. First pitch of Saturday’s game is set for 8:00 A.M. at Generals Field.
