Loyola women’s golf takes eighth at the Golfweek NAIA Spring Invite

(Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s golf team once again embarked on the Mission Inn Resort & Club – Las Colinas Golf Course on Monday afternoon to complete play at the 2017 Golfweek NAIA Spring Invite in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.c

The (RV) Wolf Pack squared off against one of the most stacked fields in any NAIA event this season with seven of the ten teams participating being ranked in the NAIA Coaches’ 25 Poll entering the competition, including the top two women’s programs (SCAD Savannah – No. 1 and Keiser – No. 2) in the country.

After carding a 320 to end day one in seventh, Loyola came back on Monday and carded a 338 to finish the event in eighth place with a 658 team score.

No. 2 Keiser left Howey-in-the-Hills as the tournament champion, carding a 613 throughout the two days to take the crown over No. 1 SCAD Savannah by 12 strokes.

Individually, SCAD Savannah’s Maria Paula Otero claimed medalist honors after tallying a 148 (76, 72) to win the event three strokes.

For the second-straight tournament, Daria Delfino (SO/Cranston, R.I.) and Julchen Narwark (SR/Buchholz in der Nordheide, .de) paced the Wolf Pack in the standings, with Delfino ending the tournament tied for 15th (158) while Narwark left Florida tied for 19th with a 160.

Ashley Rogers (SO/Pace, Fla.) improved her score by one stroke on Tuesday to leave Florida tied for 36th (171) and Megan Keck (SR/Sedalia, Mo.) was not far behind with a 172 total to tie for 39th.

Alexis Hazard (SR/Pensacola, Fla.) was the final finisher for the Wolf Pack on Tuesday, ending the event tied for 45th with a 176.

The Wolf Pack will have the next three weeks off before the team heads to the Arrowhead Country Club to participate in the SSAC Conference Championships on April 24-26.
