Loyola volleyball bested 3-0 by Faulkner University on Thursday evening

(New Orleans, La) Following a weekend in Georgia which saw them win two out of three conference matches, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team returned home on Thursday evening to square off against Faulkner University.

Despite pushing the third set to 26 points, the Wolf Pack fell to the Eagles 0-3 (21-25,14-25,25-27), marking the fifth straight defeat to Faulkner after winning six consecutive contests to start the rivalry.

With the loss, Loyola drops to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Eagles improve to 7-10 on the year and 4-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) action.

Thursday night’s statistics proved closer than the sweep would show; with both teams collecting 33 kills while Faulkner barely edged out Loyola in assists (29-27) and digs (50-45). The real difference came on the defensive end as the Eagles held the large advantage in both blocks (7-2) and aces (7-0) on Thursday evening.

Allison Hartmann led the Wolf Pack with 12 kills and four blocks, while Maddie Huekels paced the offense with 14 assists to along with seven kills. Katie Philippi continued her strong play in the back row with 14 digs, while Sunni Blanchard chipped in nine assists and four digs off the bench.

Kiki Coombs led Faulkner with nine kills and Katie Musser handed out a match-high 25 assists in the victory.

Loyola returns to First NBC Court tomorrow, Sept. 23, to face Breanu University at 6:00 p.m.
