Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival

(New Orleans, La) Head Coach Nick Dodson and the Loyola University New Orleans cross country team will welcome seven collegiate programs and three high school/middle school teams to Lafreniere Park on Saturday morning for the second annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival.

We are thrilled to again be partnering with the Allstate Sugar Bowl in our upcoming cross country meet at Lafreniere Park,” said Loyola Director of Athletics Brett Simpson. “Together, we hope to grow this event into one of the premiere cross country events on the Gulf Coast, while also showcasing the metro New Orleans area.”

The event will feature 215 runners spread across seven divisions, which include men’s and women’s collegiate, boys and girls high school varsity and junior varsity, and boys and girls middle school.

Last year, LSU swept the collegiate division while Lusher Charter (girls) and Fountainbleau (boys) took home the high school varsity crowns.

Anthony Rizzi was the top finisher for Loyola at last year’s event, claiming 16th after crossing the line in 17:28.1. For the women, Jordan Elissa finished the 5K course in 23:45.8 to take home 25th.

This will be the first event of 2016 for the Wolf Pack after the Xavier Big Bity Opener on August 26 was cancelled due to course conditions.

Collegiate teams set to compete in 2016: Dillard University, Jacksonville State University, Louisiana Tech, Loyola University, Mississippi Valley State University, Spring Hill College, Tulane University and Xavier University Louisiana.
