(Shreveport, La.) Coming off of two thrilling walk-off victories over the College of Saint Joseph on Tuesday, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team headed to Shreveport on Saturday for a doubleheader against (RV) Louisiana State University-Shreveport at Pilots Field.

Despite a great afternoon at the plate by Alexander Lorenzo (SR/Miami, Fla.), the Wolf Pack dropped both contests (5-3, 6-1) on the road to fall to 9-7 overall.

Game One: LSUS 5 – Loyola 3

The Wolf Pack struck early in the opening game as Rawlings Elam (JR/Houston, Tx.) led off the first inning with a triple to right. Nathan Law (FR/Arab, Ala.) then stepped to the plate and sent a sacrifice fly out to center to score Elam and put Loyola up 1-0 with one out. Following a flyout, Lorenzo doubled to right then advanced to third on a bobble by the Pilots’ Brenden Meade. A liner on the next play would leave Lorenzo stranded at third but not before the visitors took the 1-0 advantage into the home half of the inning.

Down 0-1, LSUS would tag starting pitcher Jordan Green (SR/Shreveport, La.)e for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first to take the 3-1 lead after one.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Wolf Pack used a sacrifice fly (scoring Law) by Toscano and a RBI single (scoring Lorenzo) by Jimmy Richardson (FR/Pensacola, Fl.) to knot the game at 3-3.

The Pilots quickly responded with a two-run half inning of its own to retake the advantage back 5-3 heading into the fourth.

Both teams would combine for only three hits over the next three innings and the score remaining 5-3 in favor of LSUS entering the top of the seventh. Toscano reached on a walk in the seventh but would be later tagged out on a fielder’s choice. With two outs, the Wolf Pack’s Ben Condara (JR/Houston, Tx.) struck out swinging to seal the 5-3 victory for the home team in game one.

Lorenzo (2-for-4) led the way for the Wolf Pack in game one with two doubles while Law, Toscano and Richardson logged a RBI each in the loss.

On the mound, Green drops to 1-2 on the season after allowing five runs (all earned) on six hits with three walks in 5.0 innings pitched.

Game Two: LSUS 6 – Loyola 1

The Pilots got on the board first in the home half of the opening inning following a groundout.

Down 0-1 in the top of the fourth, Brandon Wilson Jr. (FR/Chalmette, La.) singled to right field. Following a groundout, Lorenzo blasted a single to right to score Wilson Jr. and knot the game at 1-1.

The home team tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to regain the advantage at 2-1.

LSUS broke the game open in the fifth and sixth innings, manufacturing two runs in each frame to stretch the lead to 6-1 heading into the seventh.

Facing a five-run deficit, the Wolf Pack only managed one hit over the next three innings to closeout game two with the 6-1 loss.

Lorenzo went 1-for-4 in game two and was responsible for the lone Loyola RBI. Elam, Wilson Jr., Richardson and John Hernandez (JR/Tampa, Fl.) added one hit a piece in the loss with Wilson Jr. collecting the lone run.

Stewart Campbell (SR/New Orleans, La.) (2-1) got saddled with the loss in game two after surrendering four runs (all earned) on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched.

The Wolf Pack will close out its three-game series with the Pilots tomorrow, Feb. 26, with a single game set to start at 1:00 p.m.
