Louisiana places seven in NAIA national basketball tournaments

The fields of 32 were announced Wednesday for the NAIA Division I men’s and women’s basketball championships beginning next week, and Louisiana is well represented.

Four Louisiana schools are in the men’s bracket and another three are on the women’s side.

The men’s tournament is at Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium.

The LSU-Shreveport men open play for state schools on March 16 at 8:45 p.m.

LSU-Alexandria, a No. 1 seed, will play on March 17 along with New Orleans-area schools Dillard and Xavier.

The women’s tournament is in Independence, Missouri. Xavier and Loyola play in the first two games of the day on March 16 and if both win, the New Orleans-area schools would face off in the second round.

LSU-Shreveport is also in the field and opens tournament play the next day.

LSU-S and Xavier are two of 15 schools to place teams in both the men’s and women’s national championships.

He continued that relationship as a student at Loyola University, where he graduated in 1987.
