RUSTON – Louisiana Tech sophomore outfielder Morgan Turkoly added some more hardware to an already impressive resume Wednesday when it was announced by the league office that she earned Conference USA Softball All-Academic honors.
Turkoly is one of just 14 Conference USA softball players on the prestigious team, voted on by the league SIDs.
The Sanger, Texas native currently boasts a 3.89 grade point average in accounting. After earning both the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and C-USA Academic Medal as a freshman, Turkoly pulled off the trifecta this year adding Conference USA All-Academic honors to the other two.
Turkoly becomes the first Lady Techster softball player to earn C-USA Softball All-Academic, C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and C-USA Academic Medal honors in the same season since the University joined the league four years ago.
On top of those impressive academic honors, Turkoly was also named first team all-conference on Tuesday for her play on the field.
This year she batted .398 with 45 hits, 11 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs with 33 runs and 34 RBI in a season that saw her miss 14 games with a broken hand. In Conference USA-only games the Sanger, Texas native hit .425 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run, 20 runs and 17 RBI.
In addition to Turkoly, the 2017 Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team consists of Meredith Harris, Charlotte; Kelli Schkade, North Texas; Haley Pace, Charlotte; Samantha Reynolds, Southern Miss; Alex Miller, FAU; Joanna Fallen, UAB; Danielle Mowry, FIU; Courtney Clayton, UTEP; Bailee Baldwin, UTSA; Morgan Zerkle, Marshall; Angelica Nino, UTSA; Taylor McCord, Marshall and Kathryn Downing, WKU.
Turkoly will lead the Lady Techsters into the Conference USA Tournament today when they face the winner of North Texas/Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. in Hattiesburg.
