LA Tech wraps up play at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – Louisiana Tech’s golf team wrapped up play at the All-American Intercollegiate Sunday after as the Bulldogs finished tied for 11th place with a three-round total of 878 (291, 291, 296) at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.

Felix Palson ended the weekend tied for 37th (72, 73, 74) along with senior Charles Neel White, who also led LA Tech after shooting two under par in the third and final round and 219 (75, 74, 70) for the entire tournament.

“I am really excited about this weekend and our performance overall,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We had three true freshmen and a sophomore in the lineup, so to be in contention after the first round against several top programs nationally, it was exciting for us to have a very solid finish in a very good field. Overall, I am very pleased with direction these guys are going and pleased with what I am seeing from these guys and their progress.”

Following the opening round of golf which lasted into Saturday morning due to weather delays and darkness, the Bulldogs were tied for fifth as a team with a total score of 291 (three over par), while individually, a pair of freshmen impressed for LA Tech as Joacim Ahlund finished the first round tied for four after shooting two under par (70), while Felix Palson tied for 14th after shooting 72 on Friday.

On Saturday afternoon, LA Tech began the second round, where the team finished the day in ninth place with a score of 291 and a team total of 582 through two rounds of play. Ahlund finished the second round tied for 15th individually after shooting 73 for a total of one under par through the first two rounds. In the third round alone, Louisiana Tech shot 296 as a team for a three-round total of 14 over par.

Louisiana Tech returns to the golf course Feb. 27-28 when the Bulldogs travel to Lafayette to compete in the ULL Classic Invitational.
