RUSTON – Louisiana Tech men’s basketball junior guard Jacobi Boykins announced on Friday that he will declare for the National Basketball Association’s 2017 Draft.

“After talking to my family and my coaches, I have decided to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft without signing with an agent, leaving my option to return back to Louisiana Tech for my senior year open,” Boykins said.

The shooting guard was a Third Team All-Conference USA selection this past season, finishing second on the team in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game. He shot 46 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc while setting a new program record with 89 made three-pointers.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Jacobi to gain information about where he stands among the world’s elite players,” head coach Eric Konkol said. “We want our players to dream and work toward becoming their very best and this process fosters that growth.

“Jacobi will be closely evaluated by NBA teams and then chose to remain in the draft or finish his career at Louisiana Tech based on the information he receives.”

Boykins was also a member of the C-USA All-Defensive Team this past season, leading the league with an average of 2.0 steals per game. His 65 total steals tied for the fourth most in program history.

The St. Petersburg, Florida native will have until May 24 to choose between staying declared or pull his name out of the draft pool and return to LA Tech.

The 2017 NBA Draft will take place on June 22.
