MIAMI, Fla. – Louisiana Tech dropped the series finale to FIU, 6-3, but still took the series on the road in Miami.
LA Tech won their fifth consecutive series over the weekend, taking the first two games of the series. At worst, Louisiana Tech will still sit in fifth place in the Conference USA standings, going into the final two weekends of conference play.
Matt Miller made his second start in conference play and went five innings and allowed just two runs and only have up two hits.
FIU added single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings to go ahead 3-0.
Louisiana Tech couldn’t find any offensive rhythm, that was up until the top of the eighth inning. After Dustin Mitchell opened the eighth with a single to left field, Parker Bates drew a walk allowing the tying run to come to the plate in the form of Raphael Gladu. Like he has done all season, Gladu delivered the big blast, launching a game-tying, three-run home run over the right field wall.
It wasn’t enough though as FIU plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a double and another on a questionable balk call after the FIU runner was picked off of third.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday night for a midweek contest on the road at Lafayette. The two teams met in Ruston earlier this season with the Diamond ‘Dogs coming out victorious 6-5 in 13 innings.
