BAY ST. LOUIS, MS – Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis announced that they will host one of biggest live boxing events that the Gulf Coast has seen in nearly a decade on Saturday, April 24th, at 8 p.m.  “The ‘Kassi vs. Nolan’ fight will be the biggest fight held on the Gulf Coast since the Etienne vs. Botha fight that was held in the New Orleans Arena and televised on Showtime on July 22, 2002,” said Boxing Promoter Les Bonano.

In this main event, crowd pleaser “Big Fred” Kassi (15W-1L) returns to Hollywood for a ten round bout with veteran Leo Nolan (27W-2L). Nolan comes out of Detroit, Michigan, and held both IBU International and the IBA American Heavyweight titles. The IBA title was won with a 12 round decision over Lou Savarese who had 45 wins and 5 losses. “This will be a real test for Kassi, and his performance could lead him to being rated and open some big doors for him in the boxing world,” said Bonano.

The rising heavyweight Kassi won his last fight at Hollywood against the heavy hitter Moises Droz (13W-9L) by knock out in the third round. He’s won three fights in a row since his lone set back.

The co-feature to the main event will feature two of the top prospects in this region. In a six-round light heavy weight fight Anthony Doughty (7W-1L) of Tuscaloosa, AL, will battle it out with undefeated Justin Verdin (9W-0L) of Houma, Louisiana.  “I was surprised that Doughty accepted this match,” said Bonano.  Most fighters typically attempt to build and improve their record and do not necessarily move up to challenge an unbeaten fighter until they make a large payday.  In this case, he is willing to step up to the challenge without the bigger payday.  Nevertheless, Doughty’s manager Jay Deas, who also manages an Olympic Champion fighter, feels confident that his fighter can win the fight.

“We have five exciting bouts scheduled and tickets are selling faster than usual,” said Assistant Director of Marketing Holly Lemoine-Raymond.  “Our other past boxing events have sold out and this event will sell-out too, so boxing fans need to buy their tickets early,” said Lemoine-Raymond.

In the first middle weight bout Jamond Bourgeois of New Orleans, Louisiana, makes his professional debut facing off with Josh Thorpe (1W-0L). Thorpe is from Mobile, Alabama, and both fighters are expected to draw a large fan base. Light weight David Hill (0W-1L) returns from Pensacola, Florida, to go toe-to-toe with Aubrey Norris from Mobile, AL. Norris is making his professional debut. Hill lost his first professional fight at Hollywood Casino earlier in the year.

Middleweights Marcus McDaniel (2W-0L) and Billy Cunningham (3W-4L) of Jackson, MS, will step into ring.  McDaniel a very fast fighter from New Orleans, LA, won a tough four-round battle here in January where he handed Cleoney Fouqua, a debuting fighter out of Columbus, MS, his first loss.
