Buchholz, Chargois, Loup take advantage of mound opportunities

DJ LeMahieuFormer LSU star D.J. LeMahieu continues his brilliant season which could conclude with a milestone.

LeMahieu continues to lead the Major Leagues in batting with a .349 average. The Colorado star has an 11-game hit streak (19-for-44/.432) and has hit in 16 of his last 17 games (26-for-64/.406).  He has now reached base safely in 36 consecutive games. While the Rockies are out of the race for a playoff berth, LeMahieu remains focused on team goals.

“If a runner needs to be moved over or I need to get an RBI, I’ve been doing that stuff all year, and I’m not going to change that for anything,” LeMahieu told MLB.com. “So that’s it, just have good, team at-bats and try to help our team win. If the average is good, then great. If not, helping the team win is all I can do.”

In the heat of a pennant race, former McNeese State ace Clay Buchholz came up big for Boston last Friday. Buchholz pitched six solid innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits, striking out two as the Red Sox won 7-4. It was the seventh win of the season for Buchholz, who has struggled much of the year.

Former Sulphur High hurler J.T. Chargois is doing a nice job for the Minnesota Twins out of their bullpen. Chargois has posted eight consecutive scoreless outings. In seven innings during his current streak, Chargois has allowed just one hit, striking out six.

The season is over for former Northshore High star Logan Morrison of the Tampa Bay Rays. Morrison suffered a wrist injury that requiring surgery. Morrison finished his year batting .238 with 14 home runs and 43 RBI for the Rays.

Wade LeBlanc has fit in nicely in Pittsburgh, thus far. The Barbe High alum has made three relief appearances for the Pirates, not allowing a run. He picked up his second save of the season, his first as a Pirate on Sept. 17 in a 10-4 win over the Reds. In his three appearances with Pittsburgh, LeBlanc has pitched six innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five. On the season, LeBlanc is 3-0 with a 4.02 ERA and two saves, including his numbers with Seattle.

Former Hahnville and Tulane pitcher Aaron Loup has performed well lately for Toronto, helping the Blue Jays in the midst of a pennant race. Loup has recorded seven straight scoreless appearances out of the Toronto bullpen, covering six and two-thirds innings. In the stretch, Loup has allowed just three hits and has three strikeouts.
