Gavin CecchiniFormer Barbe star Gavin Cecchini is enjoying his September call-up by the New York Mets. Cecchini came up big for New York, which is battling for a Wild Card playoff spot, this past Saturday against the Phillies. Cecchini doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs at shortstop though the Mets lost 10-8. Cecchini made his Major League debut on Sept. 11 at Atlanta.

Former Barbe star Wade LeBlanc continues to pitch well for Pittsburgh. LeBlanc picked up his first win as a Pirate on Sept. 23, pitching one shutout inning in relief as the Pirates scored a run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win 6-5. LeBlanc improved to 1-0 with a perfect ERA in seven appearances with the Pirates. In 11 innings, LeBlanc has allowed just five hits and struck out 10. Including his numbers with Seattle this season, LeBlanc is 4-0 with a 3.69 ERA in 18 appearances.

Former Slidell star Will Harris of LSU is putting a bow on his All-Star season. Harris has posted five consecutive scoreless appearances for the Houston Astros to lower his ERA to 2.13 to go with his 1-2 record and 12 saves in 65 appearances. He has fanned 69 batters in 63 and one-third innings. Harris has allowed just 50 hits.

The Seattle Mariners suspended former Southeastern Louisiana player Steve Clevenger on Sept. 23 for the remainder of the season following a set of insensitive tweets related to the protests in Charlotte following the fatal police shooting of an African American. Clevenger was on the disabled list at the time of his suspension. He apologized for his remarks.

Former St. Thomas More and LSU star outfielder Mikie Mahtook has endured an injury-plagued season. He is trying to close with a flourish. Mahtook has a three-game hit streak for Tampa Bay (4-for-8/.500). He homered at Houston on Aug. 26, the city closest to his hometown of Lafayette. Mahtook is now batting .195 with two home runs and 10 RBI for the Rays.

Since being acquired by the Baltimore Orioles from Seattle in mid-season, former Loranger and Southeastern Louisiana star Wade Miley has had a rough go of it. Prior to this past weekend, he was 1-5 with the Orioles, who are in the heat of a run at a playoff berth.

That changed on Saturday, when the Orioles defeated Arizona 6-1 at Camden Yards. Miley pitched a gem, nearly going the distance. He pitched eight and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on seven hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters to improve to 9-13 overall on the season.

With less than a week to go in the season, former LSU star D.J. LeMahieu of the Colorado Rockies continues his run at a batting title. LeMahieu is batting .349 to lead the Major Leagues by two points over Daniel Murphy of the Washington Nationals. LeMahieu has 32 doubles, eight triples 11 home runs, 66 RBI and 11 stolen bases and has played a solid second base for Colorado.

After battling injuries for nearly two years, former LSU hurler Jason Vargas is finally back with the Kansas City Royals. Vargas has pitched in two games for the Royals since returning just over a week ago. He is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA.
