Alexandria, LA – LSUA’s defense held the RRAC leading scorer, Samantha Sharpnack-Isom, from taking any shots on net, but an early breakdown on a free kick allowed the match’s only goal as Texas A&M Texarkana defeated LSUA 1-0 in the Generals conference opener Thursday afternoon at Generals Field.

In the 24th minute, LSUA player Alexandra van Amburgh was whistled for a hand ball on the right side of the 18 yard box. Eagle midfielder Arika Elliott stepped up hit the ball through to the goalkeeper and inside the right post for the 1-0 score. That was Texarkana’s lone shot in the first half.

After taking five shots in the first half, the Generals put on more pressure in the second half, working the ball into the offensive half and garnering nine second half shots, but none of the four that were on goal got past goalkeeper Gabriella Flores.

LSUA (4-5, 0-1 RRAC) ended up with 14 shots in the match, six of which were on net. The Generals controlled much of the action, holding TAMUT (8-3, 2-1 RRAC) to seven shots in the match with just one on net.

The Generals now have a week off before starting a three game road trip. The first match of the trip is next Thursday, September 29th against St. Thomas in Houston. Kick off against the Celts is set for 5:00 PM at Houston Sports Park.
