Alexandria, LA – LSUA head softball coach Jerry Breaux announced the addition of three signees to his 2018 recruiting class, as Natalie Lopez, Amy Reed and Bailey Hughes all signed their letters of intent to join the Generals softball team.
Lopez, a 5-5 third baseman and catcher, is finishing out her senior season at Calexico High School in Calexico, California. She has been a top defensive player for the Bulldogs, having been named Defensive Player of the Year there every season she’s played. One of the local television stations even tabbed her as its Athlete of the Week during this previous softball season. Lopez is also a champion in the classroom, earning the school’s honor roll all three years to this point, and a three-time Presidential Award recipient.
Reed, a 5-5 catcher, is closing her high school career at Iowa High School in Iowa, Louisiana. Each season, she’s improved on the All-District team, starting as an honorable mention as a freshman, then was second team as a sophomore and named to the first team last season as a junior. She was also honorable mention All-State for the 2016 season. During her junior campaign, she held a .529 batting average with five home runs and 46 runs batted in. Her on base percentage was at .610 and slugging percentage at .941.
Hughes, a 5-6 shortstop, is playing out her final season at Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She also improved her standing on the All-District team for each season, starting as an honorable mention as a freshman, then second team as a sophomore and first team as a junior. She was also named to both the All-Parish first and second teams. As a junior last season, she hit .428 with nine home runs.
“We’re excited to have all three join us,” said Coach Breaux. “Natalie is tremendously talented and brings versatility to our program, She has a high IQ and can play anywhere on the field. We love everything about Amy, both on and off the field. She’s a true slugger and does a great job behind the plate. She will be a delight to coach. Bailey possesses the rare combination of speed and power at the plate. She will be an exciting player to watch for her years at LSUA.”
All three players will join the team in Fall 2017 and hit the field for the 2018 season.
