New Orleans, La. (GCAConf.com) – The 2015 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Summer Meetings are set for Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 on the campus of Xavier University.

This will be the second gathering under the leadership of Commissioner Steve Martin, who took the helm in January of 2014 after the retirement of Thomas Howell.

Aside from the regular conference business, Commissioner Martin expects there to be a tremendous focus on the GCAC’s signature event, the men’s and women’s basketball championship tournament.

“We feel like we have one of the best basketball products in the country”, said Mr. Martin. “There is great depth on both the men’s and women’s sides. Our job is to make sure that we get the fans excited about coming to the tournament and that we are able to provide them with great venues and an atmosphere that celebrates the talented student-athletes that play in the GCAC. We’ve made strides over the past two seasons, but we know we have more work to do and these meetings will serve to get us focused on what we need to do and how we’re going to do it.”

The GCAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will return to New Orleans for the third consecutive year in 2016.

Athletic Directors, faculty representatives, coaches, and other support personnel will spend most of their time reviewing internal issues such as individual sport policy and procedures, eligibility training, and branding.

“We’ve had a lot of change in the conference over the past few years, from the commissioner’s office to our membership”, Mr. Martin added, “but ultimately the focus is on making sure we’re handling the business of the GCAC to continue to allow us to provide a great competitive environment for all of our members.”
