RENO – Isaac Galloway ripped a pair of home runs and wrapped up an impressive weekend in Reno with five home runs and nine runs batted in as the New Orleans Baby Cakes defeated the Reno Aces 9-7.
The ‘Cakes jumped on Aces starter Keyvious Sampson in the first inning scoring three times. New Orleans took advantage of three walks and Moises Sierra drove home a pair on a base hit and Matt Juengel hit a sacrifice fly to plate the third run.
New Orleans scored three more times in third inning to take a 6-0 lead. ‘Cakes starter Vance Worley (2-5) earned the win pitching six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
Galloway hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Aces rallied on Saturday night with a six run ninth inning to tie the game and win it in extra innings and on Sunday the Aces mounted another comeback. Reno sent eight batters to the plate in the ninth and scored four runs. Illdemaro Vargas drilled a three run home run. Brandon Cunniff came out of the bullpen and retired the final batter for his second save of the season.
New Orleans (13-23) and Reno (22-15) split the four-game series.
GAME NOTES: The Marlins optioned Steve Lombardozzi to New Orleans to make room for Justin Nicolino. The ‘Cakes picked up a win in a series finale for the second time in nine games. New Orleans hitters drew a season high ten walks in Sunday’s game. The ‘Cakes finished the road-trip with a 3-5 record.
UPCOMING: The ‘Cakes return home for an eight game home-stand on Monday. New Orleans will start LHP Adam Conley against Salt Lake LHP Nate Smith.
