SAN MARCOS, Texas – The ULM baseball team had six errors and surrendered a pair of three-run innings to Texas State on Friday night as the hosts tallied a 9-5 win to even the Sun Belt Conference series at a game apiece heading into Saturday’s series finale.

-After ULM had just cut the deficit to one run at 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Texas State posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth with the help of Warhawk errors to gain some breathing room.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Texas State got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the first, starting with a balk to plate a runner from third base before an RBI double and RBI single gave the hosts a three run lead.
-ULM responded in the top of the the second inning, loading the bases for Turner Francis to draw a bases loaded walk, but the Warhawks would strand the bases loaded to end the frame. ULM then cut the deficit to one run in the top of the fourth when Anthony Herrera walked and later scored on a wild pitch before Texas State extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth with the two runs, aided by a ULM error and a sacrifice fly.
-The teams traded runs again in the fifth, first when Reynolds reached on a two-out error and then scored on Tyler Cox’s RBI single, which was answered by the hosts with a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.
-Texas State posted three runs on one swing in the bottom of the seventh, when Reynolds misread a ball hit by Jaylen Hubbard that went all the way to the base of the center field wall and allowed the three-run, inside the park homer.
-ULM responded again, with a single run in the eighth when Cox led off the frame with a walk and later scored when Cade Stone singled, and also in the ninth when Reynolds singled and scored on Cox’s two-out RBI single, but the comeback attempt would end there.
-ULM left 12 men on base in the loss, including seven in the opening three innings, and grounded into two double plays.
-Cox and Herrera each finished with two hits in the loss for the Warhawks, while Stone (RBI), Reynolds, McGehe, Johnny DeLaCruz and Chad Bell all had one hit.
-ULM starter Chase Beal was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts over four innings of work. Relievers Tyler Schwaner, Stephen Morrison, Chase Cater and Payton Coddou each tossed one inning out of the bullpen, combining to allow five hits and three runs.
-Teddy Hoffman finished 3-for-5 for Texas State with two RBI, while reliever Joe Powell tossed the final 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.
-ULM and Texas State wrap up the series with a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon. ULM then returns home and makes the short trip to Grambling next Tuesday night.
