NEW ORLEANS – This week, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation unanimously approved her nomination to its Board of Directors. Founded in 1988, the GNOSF serves to “attract and manage sporting events that have a positive economic impact on the Greater New Orleans area,” including the Super Bowl, Final Four and the New Orleans Bowl.
It has been an outstanding year for Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes. The Dillard University Athletic Director led her program to one of its most successful campaigns ever in 2015-16. The Bleu Devils earned their first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Thomas Howell Cup for all-around athletic excellence. The Dillard men’s basketball team and the women’s track team earned conference titles and the entire program seems poised for improvement next year.
Personally, Barnes has earned three GCAC Athletic Director of the Year awards and serves as the conference’s president. She was selected as the 2015 Administrator of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Athletic Directors Association Board of Directors.
Locally, Barnes was honored earlier this year at the NOLA Boss Awards as a leading woman in community leadership.
“I am honored by this opportunity to serve the city of New Orleans”, said Dr. Baker Barnes. “Athletics has played such a tremendous role in my life and I see the impact is has in a number of areas. It is a great privilege to be associated with the GNOSF and I look forward to contributing to its success in whatever way that I can.”
