Delgado’s extra inning walkoff win earns Friday doubleheader split with LSU-Eunice

Delgado split Friday’s non-conference doubleheader against LSU-Eunice at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, falling to the Bengals 8-3 before rebounding for a 3-2 extra-inning, walkoff win in game two.

In the second game, Delgado plated two runs in the third on an RBI double by Brandt Broussard and a single by JP LaGreco for an early 2-0 lead.

LSU-Eunice answered with a two-run sixth inning following a back to back singles by Michael Claverie and Hunter Feduccia, who both scored on a single by Cameron Horton to tie the game 2-2.

The game carried over an extra inning before Tyler Thompson singled to score Blake Way, who reached on a two out double, for the Dolphins’ 3-2 extra inning victory, the team’s third walkoff win in three days.

Kyle Flettrich picked up another win on the mound in relief of starter Jonah Manuel, who pitched 6.1 innings.

In the first game, JP LaGreco doubled to score Brandt Broussard in the first inning for the first run of the day. LSU-Eunice’s Jacob Richard singled in the third and scored on a double by Bo Myers to tie the game. The Bengals added two in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a comfortable lead.

Delgado’s Brandt Broussard tripled and scored on a groundout by Daniel Lahare for the Dolphins’ second run in the sixth.

Eunice added three insurance runs in the eighth, two of the runs coming off of a double by Hunter Feduccia. In the ninth, Delgado added a run following singles by Brandt Broussard and Chip Bonura before falling short in the 8-3 loss to the Bengals.

Delgado started Jace Nini suffered the loss on the mound with Trevin Stein and Blayne Haro appearing in relief.

Delgado and LSU-Eunice will meet at 1:00 Saturday for the final game of the series at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
