The road to the Junior College World Series has taken a slight detour for Delgado Community College.

The ballpark – and now the schedule – has changed.

The South Central District tournament – originally scheduled to be played at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri – has been moved a few miles down the road to Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.

And the tournament, which was originally scheduled to begin Friday, has been pushed back 24 hours because of impending weather.

Missouri Southern’s 3-year-old baseball stadium, Warren Turner Field, is an all-turf surface, as opposed to the grass field on Crowder’s campus. With the forecast for rain Friday and into Saturday morning, the turf is the reason for the location switch.

Delgado, Crowder and Seminole State (Oklahoma) will face off in the three-team tournament, with the winner advancing to Grand Junction, Colorado, for the JUCO World Series beginning next weekend.

Delgado is seeking its fourth consecutive district title and JUCO World Series berth. The Dolphins won last year’s tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
